Timken Co. has opened a facility in Houston, Texas to make its Philadelphia Gear brand high-speed drives. This Texas location should help Timken procure business with both new and legacy equipment to serve customers in the energy industry, the company said in a recent press release.
"The new facility will supply customers in the Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Refining, and Pumping Industries with high-speed gear boxes," Carl Rapp, Vice-President of Timken Power Systems, said in the release, adding: "While low oil prices represent a near-term challenge to the industry, we expect sales for our new high-speed gear drives to continue to grow over the coming year."

The 27,000-square-foot Houston facility is outfitted with machinery that can perform multiple operations to make gears, shafts and pinions from raw material. "The machinery helps reduce the time needed to make parts," Boyd Swearingen, General Manager of the new facility, said in the release.
